BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumotoxinA) is an FDA approved, prescription medicine that is injected with a tiny needle into muscles and used to improve moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults 18 to 65 years of age for a period of time, usually 3-4 months. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle activity that causes those lines to form between the brows.
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a very similar product to Botox Cosmetic, having very similar characteristics and uses. It has been FDA approved for several years in the United States. It also temporarily reduces muscle activity which subsequently decreases wrinkles from facial movement. Both Botox and Dysport usually begin to have a noticeable effect between 2-5 days after injection. This may vary in different people.
Both Botox Cosmetic and Dysport have excellent safety records. They should, however, be injected only by physicians very familiar with the muscles of the face.
Years of squinting, concentrating, or frowning can cause your skin to furrow and crease. As time passes, your skin becomes less elastic and those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows remain... even when your muscles aren't contracting. The moderate to severe frown lines between your brows that form are often referred to as your "11's" and may make you look angry and unapproachable. Botox Cosmetic and Dysport relax the muscles responsible for making these lines so they are less likely to become permanent fixtures between your eyebrows.
BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport can give you real, noticeable results whether you have one moderate to severe frown line between the brows (1's), or two (11's), or even three (111's). Contact us to see if BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport is right for you.
As with all medical procedures, the use of Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport® have risks. Your physician will discuss the benefits, risks and alternatives with you at your consultation.
